Some New Earrings

Thought i'd do a quick post.  Very busy at work this week but took time tonight to make a pair of earrings that turned out really cute.

I've been wanting to try out resin for a while -that's my prob you see, I jump around too much- anyway,

I bought some to try out over the weekend and I really like it.  Makes me feel all artsy and stuff.  I bought the silver bezels, put some cutouts from an old book, placed it into the bezels and poured the resin.  The directions said 6-12 hours totally dry time.

When I finished putting the whole earring together I noticed that the writing is upside down.  After I paniced I thoughthey, that makes them even more unique.  So I let it stand.  The stones are simple black glass nuggets with purple glass rondelles hung on hand forged brass ear wires.

They'll be listed in my shop tonight around 8:30 pm tonight.  Take a look ! here

Oldie But Goodie

So I made this necklace about a year ago and put in my etsy shop.  It got a lot of views but seems no one wanted.  Thought i'd share it on my blog incase someone is interested.  I absolutely love this necklace.  I call it a statement necklace but it's in an understated way.

The beads are coral and the color is a light coral with silver spacers in between.  The large silver bead is really pretty with it's etchings.  Take a look:

This beauty is about 20 inches.  The clasp is hand forged sterling silver.  It is designed for the large focal bead to be off center.  I love it!

Love the etchings in the focal bead.  So if you are interested please check it out in my etsy shop here.

Well, back to my studio table to try and create more items.
This item is sold.

Up Late Creating! What the Heck!

I sometimes have the problem of not being able to sleep and tonight, or this morning i'm up--damn it!!  Anyway since I was up anyway I decided to come into my little studio ( a small bedroom) and got to work.  I came up with some new earrings.  thought i'd post them now too.  What the hell.

Here they are:

So these first ones are just indulgences.  I happen to love long earrings and these babies are a little over 3 and a half inches.  Whew!  Anyway I absolutely love all the blue in them.  The lighter blue ones are frosted.  The dark blue beads are almost watery looking -  dreamy.  They came from a wonderful artisan on Etsy.  Can't find the link right now though.

The turquoise colored ones below also came from the same artisan on etsy.  I love the beads at the top.  They are so special.  And the "eggs" at the bottom are from a different artisan and i love the rough texture of them.  They are not quite as long - about 2 and a half inches long.  Again, I love long earrings with that bohemian flair.  The brownish beads on top of the yellow discs look like candy.  Yummy!  Yellow and turquoise look delish together.

The shot below are just to get up close and personal with the eggs, the discs and the candy beads. I loe this combo together.  The wire is Vintaj brass plated copper.  The ear wires are forged out of the same wire.

I think I've shown these before and they are already in my etsy shop here.  I love the different shades of pink with the contrast of the black beads and the steel ear wires.

These earrings in yellow and blue and green are too cute.  They are the shortest at 2 inches.  I'm loving these yellow acrylic discs.  As I guess you can tell by now.  I like them cause i'm panting for spring and that yellow seems to brighten up everything and go with a lot of other colors.

Okay so I am hella sleepy so off to bed i go!  If interested i'm listing these beauties in my shop later this morning or afternoon.  Guess it depends on when I get up now. Goodnight / morning.

New Earrings!

So today I was iced in by some icy weather.  We had everything from sleet to thunder snow to thunder sleet and plain snow.  Oklahoma is the place to see all kinds of weather sometimes - like today- at the same time.

So I made a really cute pair of little owl earrings.  They are blue, and yellow which makes me wish for spring already.  Tired of the cold.

These earrings are a little over 3 inches long and made with brass wire.  Check them out.  I used Vintaj wire.  The yellow discs are acrylic and the little owls are ceramic.  2 black ceramic beads hang from the ends.    They are very light weight.

So that was my project today.  They are now listed in my etsy shop here.
See you next time.

Happy Sunday Everybody!

So it's a beautiful day outside.  It's sunny and almost warm.  This is a long week end for me so I intend to enjoy it and make some jewelry too.  Thought i'd show an idea that I have that's not quite formulated really.  It's green-a color i'm drawn to lately-and brass with a verdigris patina.  As I look at it though I realize it needs some color.  I've thought about a lot of colors like purple, red, yellow, a different shade of green.  I just can't find it right now.  But I will.

I got the verdegris'd brass pendant from a shop on etsy that has some really nice stampings in brass. They are reasonably priced and I check their store often for unusual supplies.  It's called Dime Store Emporium and you can find her here.  So I guess enough rambling here's the beginning design:

I have no idea yet how to connect all these different elements. It will no doubt have to change but it may work like it is.  That is the challenge in jewelry design for me.  How to actually put together the designs that come out of my pea brain.  Sometimes there is just no making it work.  Frustrating yes, but when it all does come together it makes me really happy!

New Listings

So I finally took some halfway decent pics of some of the new items i've made and listed them in my etsy shop here.

So this first necklace is made with those elements I showed in an earlier post.  Except for the red heart i was going to use.  I made my own version of a heart using steel wire and patina.  I love the colors now but I didn't want it to turn out looking christmasy.

Here you can see the back of the necklace.  I used a brass lobster claw and wire guards to help protect the wire from wear.  I purposely used different types of metals (mixed).  I used brass and some silver plate and steel.   I really like how it turned out.

I tried some editing of the pics with iphoto.  Not really liking the first pic but you can see the different colors in the earrings.  I purposely used 2 different shades of beads in these earrings.  The beads are really pretty faceted agates.  The ear wires were hand made by me in an exaggerated shape.
These earrings are 3 inches long.  They really stand out and are very swingy.

This necklace is 20.5 inches including the pendant.  The pendant is called Korean jade and it's strung on steel wire and there is a brass chain that holds the little glass crystal heart.
Again this editing is sad but i'm learning ya'll!

I love that I tried something out of the box for me.  I really am getting into using different fibers.  I bought 2 books a while ago and I have been going through them.

One book called Jewelry Designs from Nature by Heather Powers is filled with different techniques that i'm dying to try.  The other book is called Rustic Wrappings by Kerry Bogert and she uses fibers and she also gives recipes for making your own patina's and using different types of wire.  It's fantastic. I got both these books from amazon.  Check them out if you dare.  You'll begin to have all kinds of creative thoughts.

So I fulfilled my goal for this week--2 items made and listed!  Woo hoo!

Finally Made Something!

So i've ordered tons of new beads and supplies and I finally sat down and put some items together.  I decided to throw some elements here on the blog and then show what I made with the elements.  I had some really cute hearts that I thought would make really cute pendants or earrings.

So below are the elements I planned on using.  The little red heart has green, yellow and red as the main colors.  I thought i'd add some yellow flower beads, some pressed glass tiny red beads and some green  jade flowers.  I planned on attaching the red glass heart to the handmade steel heart.  But alas, plans don't always go the way you want.  Turns out that the red heart is not drilled through so there went my plan.  I decided to make a larger heart to stand on it's own.

Please accept my apologies for the poor quality of the photos but i think you can get the gist of how I put the necklace together.  What do you think?  I made another steel heart and used some gold antique gold color patina on it to make it stand out a little more.  I love the Vintaj patina's!  So easy to use.  If I can do it so can anyone else.

The pic below is a little better.  All the junk in the background are supplies, beads and lots of other stuff.  This unfortunately is the way my work tables always look.  I clean it up and the next time i'm in my little studio I mess it up again.  Just messy I guess and plus I have so much jewelry stuff I haven't found a good system of organization yet.  Still looking though.

I decided to try my hand at making my own heart and I have to say I think it came out really cute.  I'm still attached to my paints so I used Vintaj gold patina to spice my little hand made heart.  Okay, enough talk.  First i'll show the different elements i had to work with and then i'll show what I made.  And before you see the pics they aren't that great.  Will take some beter pics when I list the piece.

The clasp has not been done yet but i'll finish it today and list it in my Etsy shop later today.  If you want to take a look at it finished stop by my shop here.

I've made some other items and will get the pics done soon so I can list them.
