Kitchen Nightmares and Some New Jewelry

So I haven't posted anything in a long while.  Busy with diy kitchen remodel.  Never knew that painting smaller items is such a pain.  Good thing I never wanted to be a painter! Would a been horrible!  Anyway I did make some jewelry but most is not finished.

So, i'm posting a cute bib style necklace I made with some really funky acrylic beads that a friend of mine picked up and said  "here-these look like something you'd buy".  And she was right.  Here's the necklace:

Here's a close up below of the beads.  I really like them.  They look summery and playful.

Then I made this bracelet and I think it's interesting.  The black beads are some i've had forever and they're marble.  Always disliked them but with the bright green beads I love the look.  I was proud of it but then I put it on and it's not comfortable to wear.  Sorry about the awful pic but it's the best I could do at midnight!

Then there's this necklace below.  I absolutely love it and it decided it wanted to live with me forever.  I used three different beads to put it together.  I've been wearing it all week and I love it!  The beads are weird like I like them and the pendant is a vintage (old) piece that I got at a thrift store.  I painted it with some vintaj patina paint and voila! a pendant.  I took some sandpaper and sanded it places so it would look older than it is.  I received a lot of compliments on it and was even asked where I got it!  Love it when that happens.

So anyway back to painting cabinets.  Have a wonderful weekend everybody.

A New Necklace Design!

So last night I was so bored! Don't know if it's boredom more just restless.  So since I was home alone I went into the studio and decided to putter around and clean some more. I sat down and made a necklace.  Which is what I should'a been doing anyway.  This is what I came up with:

the stones are turquoise magnesite.  It looks like real turquoise to me but i'm no gem expert.  The black beads are some simple glass beads.   I was going to leave it without a pendant.  But I love pendants so I made one out of the magnesite stone with some silver colored daisy spacers and made a sterling silver-filled bail to hang it on.  I saw the bail technique in one of my jewelry making books and decided to give it a try.

I think it came out great! Wore it to work today and received several compliments.  I love it when that happens.  I always try a piece out before putting it up for sale.  I have to make sure it's wearable and will hold up with wear.  Don't want people spending money for something that won't last long.

I thought about using a brass clasp but then decided since everything else was silver i'd make a wire hook type clasp and connect it with a jump ring.

So when I went outside to photograph it my 2 mutts were just out there laying around trying to "help" me.  I took pics of them too.  It was 28 degrees this morning and it's April!!!!

The one below is Gabby.  She's really pretty when clean.  But since this weather has been so unspring-like we haven't even tried to clean them up.  They look like 2 dirty mops.  Embarassing as a pet owner .  But oh well.  Gabby is sometimes really stand'offish (is that a word???)  Very loving dog when she wants to be.

This scraggly girl below is Molly.  She is really sweet and loves to be affectionate---with anyone!!!!  Doesn't she look horrible?  Dirty, dirty girl.  We had rain, sleet and hail yesterday and they just love to roll around in mud.  We live in Oklahoma so all the dirt around here is red.  We also live in the country and I mean in the COUNTRY so there's really no way to keep them clean year round.

So now i'm off to try and re-work this necklace so I can put it in my etsy shop tomorrow.   I need to balance it out.  Take a look at it tomorrow in my store here and think about bringing it home to be yours. And if you feel like it leave me a comment about this new design.

Have a nice evening!

Some Cleaning Done But Still Made 2 Pieces

So I started cleaning up my space but i still have a ways to go.  I did manage to clean one of my tables and managed to make 2 new pieces.

It felt really good to sit down and have some clean space to work in.  I made a bracelet and a necklace.  The necklace was made using the components from the blog challenge I was in recently.  So here they are:

I used those same acrylic components to make a necklace.  I love these nice calming colors.  The seed beads in between the glass beads are a really pretty blue-green color.  The pendant is from an etsy vendor who patina's her pieces for you.  It has a kind of Egyptian flair to my eyes.  I used brass wire to wire the pendant on and a brass lobster claw clasp at the front.

I used some antique gold patina paint to put some accents on and then sealed the whole pendant with Vintaj sealer.  I'm not sure how I like the sealer cuz it gave a kind of shine to it.  I'm thinking i'm gonna sand it down a little so the gold won't stand out so much.  But over all I like the necklace.

The turquoise magnesite and black glass beads in the bracelet are a pretty match together.  I used a large lobster claw clasp to give it a little flair.  This bracelet is a little small- 7 and a 1/4 inches.  I myself wear a 7 and a half bracelet.  The clear glass briolette and the round charm with the silver bead I made as charms.  I don't know what it is but I love charms on bracelets.  I pretty much used silver for all the metal in this bracelet.  Don't you want to take it home to be your own?

I will list these on etsy tomorrow.  So go check 'em out why don't you in my store here.
In the mean time i'm continuing to clean and spruce up the place.  I'm beginning to see progress and i'm kind of excited about it.   See ya'll later.

No New Jewelry But Shots of My Pathetic Little Studio

I don't know what has happened but my little studio space has gone to the dogs!  I went in to see if any creative juices would flow but I just could not create in this mess!!

So even thought this is embarassing as hell I decided to show this mess and hopefully it will spur me on to clean it up.

The pic below is where I store things and from pulling out and just throwing stuff back the little bookshelf has turned into a nightmare!!  Look how I just threw crap back in.  I can be such a slob?  Am I the only one?

This pic below is more storage shelves that I picked from a give away at an office in my building that was closing down it's location.  It used to be so neat and I could find stuff when needed.  Ugh!!!!

Then there's my computer  and the crap has started moving over there.  It's hard to blog when you are surrounded by a junky mess.  Don't even know what half of that stuff is.

The one below is where i've recently started trying to create.  So uninspiring! I have these crappy torn blinds up there and these awful curtains that were in another room (it's clean by the way).  Under the table are some really nice little antique looking containers given to me by a friend from work.  They are nice but need to be stored somewhere out of the way.  There's also my nice collection of jewelry making books that are just stacked on the floor.  That's what I got the bookcase for.

And why I have kept this elliptical machine in here is beyond me. Probably because like lots of peeps I intended to use it.  Operative word intend.  But I haven't even looked at that thing for several months. Sad.

So now that everyone knows what a mess i've been trying to create in I vow to clean this mess up and to keep it that way.  My husband walked in behind me to use the computer but he quickly left with a disgusted look on his face.

So i'm off to begin the task of getting back in order.  If you can be a slob please say so in comments so I won't feel so bad.  I will show pics of it cleaned up so you'll know that I did it.

New Earrings-Black and White

So I made these earrings this evening.  When I saw these beads I fell in love with them.  I love the black/white trend.  I added some little sea blue beads for the color.  Love these.

I tried some fancy photography--not so good.  But I tried.  Anyway, don't you love these beads?

Here's a better look.  I know I need to really work on my pics.  They actually suck.  So i'll work on that.

So if you are inclined check these out in my etsy store here

Thanks for  reading!

Blog Challenge Results

This was a challenging component for me.  And I guess that was the point.  But I hate challenges.  Makes me nervous.  Sad I know.  Anyway below is the item I made and I don't particularly like it but i'll be brave and post it.  Wait till you go to the host's blog.  Lorelei is her name and she does some of the most wonderful pieces.

Don't tell her but she is a design inspiration for me.  So here's the item I made.  I'm not so fond of it but it's all I could come up with.  So here goes:

I used two bracelets with the pendant on them and the other 2 are sea glass inspired beads in a beautiful blue and green.  Love the beads.

I just made a bracelet stack. The two bracelets on the outside are singles.

So now to the host's blog and the others who participated.  They are all very talented and I think you'd enjoy seeing all the different interpretations.  Enjoy!
